If you’ve been working your business plan for the year diligently since January now is a great time to assess where you are. You did do a plan didn’t you? Well, if not, this is the absolute best time to establish one for the next six months!
Regardless of what you planned, or didn’t, in January this mid-year holiday lull is the perfect time to measure where you are compared to where you wanted to be. How are year to date sales tracking? Are profits what you expected? Profit Sharing, contingencies and most other bonuses have been paid. How did you do?
There are other things besides revenue to review at this time. How is your recruiting effort for new employees coming along? As you look at the expense side of your financial statements is there anything out of whack? Has an unexpected expense somewhere hammered profits? This would be the time to consider cutting back somewhere else. How about your customer service initiatives? New carrier search? Education plans? Plans to join OAA and dramatically increase your income?
Whether you are ahead, behind or even with what you planned the middle of the year is a great time to plan for the year to turn out well.
Why do you think there is a “half-time” in virtually every sport? It’s obviously because the game isn’t over and it’s time to assess what’s actually happened compared to what was expected. Winning teams always come out of the locker room at half time with a revised game plan. And, just like in sports, a revised game plan for your agency can result in making up lost ground or pulling away from the competition.
This year, 2015 can be the best year of your professional career! Whether it is or isn’t will depend on the adjustments you make now. It will hinge on how you, and your team, come out of the locker room. So, enjoy your time with family but take a little time with your numbers and your team too. Set in motion the winning strategy for the rest of the year now! Have a great second half!
